Hello everyone! Sorry I just posted my first post. I have not had wifi for a while. We are doing great except for my legs and my shoulders hurt a little. The first day which was Monday we were going to do 93 but we ended up doing 113 because we got a little lost. Tuesday I did 100 exactly. Yesterday I did 77 and then we had to stop because there was a horrible storm. Yesterday we began to go through West Virginia, the hills were killers! I took it one pedal at a time. I love my team mates they are such a joy. Our regular day is wake up at 4am get ready and eat, leave at 6:30 bike for about 12-13 hours arrive at the church run take a shower, eat, get ready for bed. By that time we can only sleep for about 4-5 hours every night. Today thankfully I was able to take a nap because the roads were dangerous so we had to get in the van for a long time. We did 51 miles today. I am burning so many calories, according to my mile counter the first day I burned over 11,000 calories! I Please pray for strength. We need as many prayers as we can get. It can get very hot and the hills go on for so many minuites. Just pray that we ahve enough stregth to finish. I will try to do my best to blog tomorrow! Comment! Thank you, Kathy
Hello everyone! Thank you for following me and supporting me along this journey. Today I met the people I will be biking with, they were super nice. I was a little nervous but I am very encouraged by all the wonderful stories. The ages range from 16 years old to 56 years old. We introduced ourselves and talked about how we got intrested in IJM and heard of this ride for the first couple of hours. We are about to eat dinner nad I am hungry. Later when I am done we are going to talk to the youth of this church and talk about what we are doing and why we are doing it for. One of the people that is going to be sttaying with us for a few days (we will meet her again in D C is) Karen Barnes she a maneger at IJM. If you have any questions about this organization please send me an email to [email protected] and I will ask her. Please don't hesitate. Also feel free to comment on the posts. Thanks again for all your prayers, Kathy! (P. S. I will try to blog a little bit more later today. I will also try to put photos on tomorrow if possible.)
Today was a good day! I left about 19 min. after the sun came up, which happened to be about 6:45. My goal today was to be able to bike longer than I ever have. I biked a total of 61 miles today! I would have kept biking but my mom had to take me to get a haircut. I almost saw a car crash today. There was a pick up truck that had a boat attached to the back and it flew past me on the other lane even though it could not see if there were any cars coming. A little tan car was driving and when this pick up truck went on its lane it had to stop so quick. If it would have driven another foot it would have definitely hit. I was so scared that I was going to see that little car be hit. Anyways, It was so so so hot outside! I got a sunburn on my shoulders and I also have a cycling short tan as well as bike glove tan. It is super funny. This Thursday I am going to finally meet all the people I will be biking with. Training will begin on Thursday. God bless you! Thanks for all the support!
Hello Everyone! Today was a good day no chain broke off there were no strange people. Today I biked 40 miles! I left home at around 8:45 before the sun got too hot. I biked in the area around Anchor Park and Northshore which is between the Cove and Kroger. Please keep me in your prayers! Thank you
Today I went biking around 10:30 am and biked for about 3 1/2 hours. I was able to bike a total of 30 miles. It was 95 degrees outside today. When I was about to go up a hill about 7 miles into the ride the chain for my bike popped out (when a bike chain pops ,no matter how hard you peddle you wont go anywhere). I was unable to unlock my shoes from the bike (with biking shoes there is a piece of metal called a cleats that locks into certain pedals, but in order to get it out you have turn your shoes a certain way.) I spent about 15 min. trying to get that chain to go where it was supposed to and my hands were so black with the grease of the chain. I had to walk about 5 min to the closest public bathroom to be able to wash my hands. When i finally got there I stopped to park the bike and in the distance there were 2 guys that thought it was hilarious that I had quit. They kept saying "It was just to hot for that girl so she decided to stop and take a breeze" and then they would laugh like it was super funny; it was so strange. But to sum up my day it was a little adventure: the chain, black greasy hands and it was super hot, but every time I feel like giving up or it begins to get hard I remember that this is not for me but for the girls that are enslaved and being abused Thanks for all your support!
Hello everyone! Today I was able to bike 22 miles. We started at West Bicycles close to fresh market. I got there around 7:15 am to be able to bike with them starting at 7:30. There were about 60-70 people there. I stayed with a group of about 5-7 women who were tri athletes. It took us a little less than 2 hours to bike 22 miles. :) Thank you and God bless!
Today I biked with Knox Revolution for 20 miles starting on Watt road. There were about 6-7 people today biking with me. My average for today was about 13-14 mph. The fastest that I went today was 32.9mph which just happened to be going down hill. It took us a little less than 2 hours to finish. Tomorrow I will begin biking at 7:30 am and I will bike 20-60 miles ranging on different factors. Thanks!
